Campus life

Student accommodation

About 450 places in university-owned housing are open to international students, against 1,998 international students. Hokkaido's own claim that around half live on campus does not match its published capacity.
¥9,700-11,700 a month all-in at Keiteki-Ryo (men) and Sosei-Ryo (women), the traditional student dormitories and by far the cheapest option.
¥31,000 in summer and ¥39,400 in winter for a single at International House Kita 23 Building 1 (men); ¥34,900 and ¥42,400 at Building 2 (women).
¥37,200-41,800 a month for a single at International House Kita 8, and ¥38,000 in summer to ¥48,500 in winter at Building 5, which is women only.
¥56,800 a month for a couple's flat at Kita 8 and ¥75,400 for a family flat, both including utilities.
A ¥50,000 refundable deposit applies at Kita 8 and Kita 23, plus a one-off cleaning charge of ¥11,000-32,000 and bedding at ¥2,300 a month to rent or ¥13,000 to buy.
Halls are advertised in mid-January and mid-July through each department. Hokkaido publishes no maximum length of stay for any Sapporo residence.
Hokkaido publishes no figure for private rent in Sapporo, in any year. Its joint-guarantor scheme closed to new applications on 30 June 2018, and staff may not act as guarantor.
Every figure below is rent PLUS utilities. Sapporo's winter charge is roughly double the summer one, so a hall that costs ¥31,000 a month in summer costs ¥39,000 in winter.
