About University

Founded in 1900, the University of Birmingham is a public research and teaching institution ranked in the top 100 in world university rankings and a member of the prestigious Russell Group.

The University of Birmingham is one of the largest providers of distance learning and blended learning programmes in the UK. Their commitment to online learning has been demonstrated by the launch of a series of 100% online postgraduate degrees since 2015. Built from the ground up to harness the power of available technology in teaching, their online learning experience builds on existing student experiences. The university is not afraid to do things a little differently, ensuring it is at the forefront of innovation. The University of Birmingham was the first university to be built as a campus. It was home to the first UK schools of Commerce and Medicine, the first women’s hall of residence and began awarding degrees in dentistry. Its core research now focuses on computer science, physics, law and international relations, medicine, ecology and the study of the laws of the universe. Its academics were part of the team that discovered the Higgs boson in 2012. It is no wonder that 36,000 students from around the world choose to study in the UK.
