Campus life

Student accommodation

Chiba no longer has an international dormitory. Both the International House and Kunpu-ryo closed at the end of September 2025 and take no applications, though their pages are still live.
There is no hall at all for students based at Nishi-Chiba — which is where the Design and Medical Engineering master's are taught. Chiba's own Japanese page states this plainly.
Koki-ryo at Matsudo: ¥11,000 a month, open to Horticulture students including graduates — the one hall serving the Environmental Horticulture course.
At Inohana, Yusho-ryo takes men in medicine, pharmacy and nursing including graduates at ¥4,300 a month; Satsuki-ryo takes women at ¥4,700-9,800 but undergraduates only.
University-leased UR flats near Nishi-Chiba run ¥44,880 a month for a 40 m2 two-bedroom (¥42,700 rent plus a ¥2,180 service charge) up to ¥58,330, with utilities self-contracted on top.
Those UR flats are closed to new arrivals: a resident must already have lived in Japan for more than a year, so they are not an option for someone arriving to start a course.
The hall figure is the whole rent, but utilities are extra and Chiba quantifies them only as 'several thousand yen a month' — so a ¥4,300 hall can cost two to three times its headline.
Move-in costs a non-refundable payment of one month's rent.

Student support

A research student who does not already hold a master's degree cannot register for university-recommendation scholarships at all — a bar stated only inside the registration PDF, never on the summary page.
Only about 3 of some 59 listed awards accept research students, and students already funded by MEXT or a foreign government are excluded while that award runs.
