University overview

Hiroshima University was founded in 1949 by merging eight institutions, and moved its main campus out to a 250-hectare site at Kagamiyama in Higashi-Hiroshima through the 1980s and 1990s. It keeps two campuses in the city itself: Kasumi for medicine, dentistry and pharmacy with the region's largest teaching hospital, and Higashi-Senda for law and evening economics, on the site of its original post-war home. Its English-taught teaching — three undergraduate programmes and the international development and cooperation programmes formerly run by IDEC — is all at Higashi-Hiroshima, and pays the same tuition as everything else.

Kasumi Campus The health-sciences campus in Hiroshima City, with the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Hiroshima University Hospital, the largest teaching hospital in the Chugoku region.
Higashi-Senda Campus The city-centre campus on the site of the university's original post-war home, carrying the School of Law, the evening course of the School of Economics, and the Center for Peace.

The Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation (IDEC) has not admitted students since April 2020. Its teaching now runs as four programmes of the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
